Welcome to P6MMcC
Welcome to Primary 6. We work very hard in primary 6 but also have time to do lots of fun activities. Please look through our class page to see what we have been getting up to!

World Book Day
As part of our celebrations for World Book Day on Wed 1st April we dressed up as our favourite book character. We also played a book quiz!
Our Gold Mathletes
Science! Science! Science!
We looked at different substances and predicted whether we thought they would dissolve in water or not. We made sure we performed 'FAIR' tests!
Science Technology Engineering Mathematics
As part of Science and Technology week we were very lucky to have some of the year 13 students from St Patrick's Grammar School, along with their teacher Miss Clancy, come along and work with us on a K'Nex challenge. We worked in groups and had three challenges. The first was to be the tallest tower. The second was to build a windmill. The third challenge was to build a moving wind-powered car that were able to test using fans. Even though we only had a short time to build each model we did a great job. We really enjoyed ourselves.
As part of our 'A pinch of Salt' topic we have been doing some science investigations and observations. This week we examined different types of salt, looked at what happened when we added salt to ice and observed what happened when wax and salt were placed in hot and cold water.
Some of the displays in our classroom.
Scientists of the Future!
We investigated bridges and experimented using different materials to see which made the best. We used art straws, newspaper and pasta! Then we put weights on them to see which held the most. We had a great time and built some super bridges, although they didn't last too long!!
Maths Investigative Work
Sometimes our numeracy work requires us to think and work together.
Ramp up the Red
British Heart Foundation's Ramp Up the Red Day was on Friday 13th February, 2015
Eclipse Cinema winner
Ella was very lucky to receive an Eclipse cinema Downpatrick ticket for her efforts in their recent 'Frozen' competition. Well done Ella.
NSPCC Number Day
In December our class took part in the NSPCC Number Day by participating in The Battle of the Robots. We made robots using recyclable material and then tested how far they would launch a paper ball. We were careful to ensure it was a fair test!
Once we had all tested our robots, our winner Ibai took on the winner from Mr Prenter's class. They both did fantastic.
Christmas is a great time to be in school as we have the best Christmas dinner and this year we also had a special visit from Santa who arrived on a fire engine!
Raising awareness of meningitis
Fionn came up with the excellent idea for a 'Silly Slippers Day' to raise money for Meningitis Research. We had great fun wearing our slippers to school. Even Mrs McCann joined in with her reindeer slippers.
We love to dress up and Halloween is a great excuse to go mad.
During term one we studied the topic of the rainforest and learned lots about this beautiful place which is full of amazing plants and animals. We realise how important it is to conserve the rainforests before they disappear completely.
We love to use our yard and all the equipment during break and lunch. Do you think we have made good use of the Jenga bricks?
