Sponsored Walk for Action MS

On Tuesday 29th September St Mary's descended on Castlewellan Forest Park for our Sponsored Walk in aid of Action MS. Thankfully, we were blessed with beautiful blue skies and sunshine so we were able to complete two laps! Well done everyone!

Scribblers Club with Sharon Dempsey

We've been lucky to have author Sharon Dempsey (along with Ned!) come into our class two Wednesday afternoons each month to help us with our creative writing. This week she taught us how to plan for a story using a 'planning hill'. We each pulled out an idea from Ned's head that gave us the creative kick to start our story. Our stories this week had a bit of spooky theme! Have a look at some of our session in action.

World Maths Week 12th-16th October

This week we participated in lots of extra maths activities and games to promote our love of maths! We chanted timestables when the bell rang, wore a number to school, worked on time problems and participated in the big maths quiz.

Happy Halloween!

Well, what a busy half term it has been! We rounded off the term with a well deserved, ghastly Halloween party. The children all looked wonderful in their costumes, we wish you all a very happy half term break.

Exciting Visitor - Thursday 10th December

To launch the start of our Junior Entrepreneur Project we were extremely lucky to have local entrepreneur Micheal Nugent of Sucos and Nugelato to come visit us and tell us a little of how his businesses came about. I think we are all in agreement that he was a very popular visitor and look forward to welcoming him back in January to be part of our Dragon's Den panel.

Christmas Count-down.

The festivities are well under way as the last few weeks bring us closer to Christmas. We have been busy rehearsing for our Christmas performance which promises to be a knock out, have had our school Christmas dinner and even had Santa himself come to visit each of us.

Flight Visitors - Wednesday 16th December

This week to conclude our Flight topic we had two local pilots, Enda and Paul, come to speak to us about their chosen careers. We are very grateful to them for answering our endless questions and giving up their time, we might even have some future pilots in our midst!

P6 would like to wish you and your family a very...

We've really been enjoying our Friday problem solving sessions and they've helped our team working skills. Helps others helps oursleves!

Aerobics for LEPRA

On Friday 29th of January we took part in a sponsored aerobic workout in aid of LEPRA. After hearing about some of the difficulties people with leprosy suffer from we were inspired to fundraise for our afternoon workout session. We all throughly enjoyed the workout - take a look at us in action!

Action Cancer Workshop
On Thursday 18th of February we took part in a workshop with Action Cancer. We worked in groups to look at how packaging can help us to make better choices about eating healthy, we looked at the sugar content of various food and how to cut back on our sugar intake. It was very benefitial! Thanks to Miss Sloan for organising.

World Book Day - Thursday 3rd March 2016

This year we went down to Miss Sloan's P2 class to read some of their favourite books with them. We really enjoyed the morning and hope to do it again some time soon.

ICT Day with St. Malachy's - Monday 21st March

Today we went to an ICT event organised with Queens University in St.Malachy's High School Castlewellan. The main focus of the day was computer programming and we had a series of tasks to complete, programming drones, spheres and how to make a tablet app.

Nugelato and Cocos - 23 March 2016

What a fantastic end to the term! To celebrate all our hard efforts with our JEP projects we took an early lunch and headed down to Cocos for the afternoon. On the way back to school we stopped in Nugelato to get a special treat from Michael - an ice cream of our choice and a Nugelato wafer smothered with chocolate from the famous chocolate tap! Thank you to Michael for his generosity, we had a fantastic afternoon!

JEP Showcase Day at Titanic Belfast - 5th April

Today we set off for Titanic Belfast to present our JEP projects to other schools from across the Co.Down area. The event was hosted Mash Direct who very kindly donated goodie bags and provided snacks. We spent time looking at the other schools very impressive entrepreneurial ventures before listening to a very exciting question and answer session with none other than Ireland rugby captain Rory Best! A great way to finish up our projects!
