For the start of Lent, Primary Two celebrated pancake Tuesday. The children watched and observed the permanent change of the liquid mixture into a solid pancake. They then tasted the lovely pancakes, said the pancake rhyme and wrote about the experiment in our science books. Literacy, science, religion and PDMU all integrated together in our classroom.
Change of State
Our class investigated what happened to a solid ice cube over a long period of time. We recorded the change from a solid to a liquid to a vapour or gas. It was fun predicting the changes and how long it might take to change its state. The ice cubes were also placed in different positions around our class to see if that had any effect. The observations we noted were really interesting.
Using 1p and 2p coins only, we had lots of fun exploring money. Could we make tall towers? Whose was the tallest? Whose was the smallest? Would they balance right? How much did they weigh? Can we count in 1's and can we count in 2's? Let's make a rubbing of the coins to remember the day.
We made our own ice lollies out of dilute and water. We froze them in the school freezer over night. We had fun licking our own the next day.
The science bit!!!
The water had froze into a solid and then melted again in our mouths. A liquid changed to a solid and back again to a liquid.
These are just some of the things the children made at home for our Home Learning display board. I hope you had lots of fun at home discussing this topic as we had in school.
Design and Technology
Following a set of instructions, we each made a windmill. When the wind blows on it, the wings turn round. They look great all together.
